| Rural Skills Connect (Grampians Pyrenees) - Connecting Industry to Skilled Labour
The Rural Skills Connect - Grampians Pyrenees -initiative is a project aimed at addressing vital skills gaps in the Grampians Pyrenees region of Victoria by utilising the transferable skills of the 'on farm' sector.
The project aims to match suitably credentialed and job-ready candidates with existing job vacancies.
Working in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, the Ararat Rural City Council, Northern Grampians Shire Council and Pyrenees Shire have appointed two part-time coordinators - Pat McAloon and Amanda Western - to work across the three shires engaging with industry and potential employees.
What will the project do?
- Engage rural people who have a range of skills considered a priority for regional economic growth, but for which formal recognition of theses skills may have not been obtained. - Link appropriate employment and associated training opportunities to rural farming workers, owners and operators who have the skills to meet these needs.
| What are the benefits to industry?
Available to local industry, it will provide: - Access to a job-ready and experienced local labour pool - Transitional training support; and - An opportunity to assist the surrounding rural community in a tangible way
What are the benefits to the farming sector?
Available to rural farming workers, owners and operators, it will provide: - An opportunity to participate in a detailed, individualised skill assessment - Access to highly relevant, targeted training opportunities; and - Access to flexible empoyment opportunities that seek to balance on and off farm employment opportunities
| |
| Which industries are eligible?
A wide range of skills - important to regional industry in the Grampians Pyrenees - will be focused on during the project including (but not restricted to): - Welding - Transport** - Mechanical / Machinery Operation - Horticultural - Hospitality; and - Aged Care
**As of the 1st of October 2009, clients applying for Rural Skills Connect funding to gain a truck license will either: a) Need to supply a letter of offer of employment from an employer for the time period from application until at least 31st March 2010, or b) Go on a waiting list for evaluation by the Steering Committee in early February 2010. If there is training budget not already allocated at February 2010, the funds will be directed to the applicant/s with the greatest employment likelihood. This policy has been developed in response to the project directives that to fully realise the outcomes according to skills shortages there should be a much greater emphasis on the childcare, aged care, health, earthmoving, retail and hospitality sectors in the period October 2009- March 2010.
Prospective employers and employees within the Shires of Ararat, Northern Grampians and Pyrenees are encouraged to contact either Pat or Amanda on the contact details below listed below.
